How can we help?

!

Is volunteering at Swindon Advocacy Movement for you?

SAM is always looking for volunteers to join our supportive, friendly team.

At the moment we are looking for the following:

Trustee – We welcome people from a range of backgrounds and skills to join our charity as a trustee.

Do you want to get out and about, meet new people, or try something new?

SAM is always looking for volunteers to join our supportive, friendly team.

There are several roles available here for volunteering. These include:

Buddies volunteer – Supporting people who use the ‘Buddies Project’

Trustee – We welcome people from a range of backgrounds and skills to join our charity as a trustee.

By volunteering with us, you are strengthening the services that we provide; to enable people with a wide variety of support needs to have their voice heard. You are directly involved in making the service accessible to as many people as possible, making everybody who uses our service feel valued and respected.

All our volunteers must go through our volunteer procedure. This includes:

  1. Completing an application form and equal opportunity form
  2. Coming for a volunteer interview with the volunteer coordinator
  3. Providing two references – professional / personal
  4. Completing an Enhanced DBS certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Will I get a badge to identify me as a volunteer ? Yes. We will initially provide you with a general volunteer badge. Once you have been volunteering with SAM for approximately 3 months we will provide you with a personalised badge. We would expect you to wear this badge whenever you are volunteering with us.
  2. Can I get money back for travelling and parking whilst I’m volunteering?  Yes. There is a policy outlining the volunteer expenses procedure. There are volunteer expense forms located in the volunteer file in the SAM shop. If you are unsure of what or how to claim, speak to Annie, preferably before you claim to avoid any inconvenience to yourself.
  3. If I volunteer with SAM for long enough will I get a job? Unfortunately not. Volunteering with SAM doesn’t automatically lead to paid employment, however if paid jobs do come up you are very welcome to apply for them.
  4. Can I get a reference from you?  Yes, we are able to provide you with a reference. It may be a good idea to let us know before you put SAM down as a reference so that we can provide it in time. When putting SAM down for a reference please give the following details; Annie Baker, volunteer coordinator, 37 Regent St Swindon SN1 1JL, 01793 542575.
  5. What happens if I don’t get on with someone or things don’t work out? If you feel that something isn’t working out or the role you have is what you expected, please speak to Annie. It may be that there is another role for you or we could signpost you to another organisation.A. Don’t worry if you’re not able to come in. It would be helpful if you could get in touch with us as early as possible. You can text Annie or call shop and leave a message.A. We advise volunteers not to ‘befriend’ people who use the SAM Buddies project on social media. This is for safeguarding purposes.
